​ The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation that targeted six houses at Devtraco Estate in Accra and led to the rescue of 73 victims who reportedly endured severe torture and abuse.  Officers also seized counterfeit US dollars, fake gold bars, 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones and 17 television sets believed to have been used to support their activities.  Investigations revealed that some suspects entered Ghana through unapproved routes, while others overstayed their 90-day visa-free stay. The rescued victims have since been repatriated to Nigeria.

​ The disturbing act was brought to light after residents discovered the mutilated body of the baby at a refuse dump and launched a search for the perpetrators of the heinous act. It is reported that the couple claimed the baby was pronounced dead upon delivery by a traditional birth attendant in Bontrase but failed to adequately explain the severed body parts.  Following rigorous questioning, residents handed over the suspects to the Awutu Beraku District Police Command for further investigations and prosecution.
